We need volunteers! At any given time, we have one or more active committees that need dedicated members and directors. We will also post here if we are searching for new Board members or volunteers to work events. Follow this page for new postings, and contact us if you are interested in a position.
Sitting Board Member
We are currently accepting applications for a sitting Board member, with a term beginning in January. This is a two-year (minimum) position. Our current Board has established The Opal Center as a 501(c)3 and is working on raising operating funds so we can expand our important work. If you think you can contribute, and you can commit to one hour a month plus the occasional event, please fill out an application.
Volunteer - Doctor/Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatrist
We are currently seeking medical personnel who can donate a few hours a month to help us meet our mission of providing medical services to the LGBTQ community in Texoma. Interested parties should be able to prescribe medication, and should be open to treating clients with HIV and providing gender transition-related services such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Volunteer - Attorney
We are currently seeking an attorney who can donate a few hours a month to help us meet our mission of providing legal consultation services to the LGBTQ community in Texoma. Potential issues may include name change and gender marker change, custody and adoption, discrimination, or spousal benefits. Volunteer - Social Worker/Counselor
We are currently volunteers to provide mental health and case management services. This includes conducting intakes and assessing overall needs, connecting clients with necessary resources, advocating on behalf of clients, and providing individual and family counseling. Interested parties should be knowledgeable in LGB and gender-related issues, and should take an LGBTQ-affirmative approach to care. Volunteer - Meeting Facilitator
Volunteers are needed to facilitate support group meetings. These meetings will usually take place on weekday evenings between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. Facilitators will be responsible for unlocking the door; putting out signs; ensuring that attendees sign in and complete group agreements; preparing coffee/refreshments; and hosting the group itself by introducing new attendees and ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to share.
